     Mae L. Edquist Michaels, 92, of Erie, died Sat., April 7, 2012 at Sarah Reed Retirement Center.  Formerly of 5125 Exeter Rd.  She was born Nov. 5, 1919 in Stockholm, Saskatchewan, Canada, daughter of the late Rev. Bertil and Julia Elvira Wickberg Edquist.
      She graduated from Chesterton High School, Chesterton, Indiana in 1937.  A resident of Erie since 1963, she graduated in 1971 from Edinboro University with a degree in Elementary Education and taught 6th grade at J.S. Wilson Middle School and for eight years at Asbury Elementary School, retiring in 1981.  She was a member of Luther Memorial Church and the former Bethany Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was active in various volunteer positions.  She enjoyed hand weaving, quilting, gardening, sailing and swimming.
     Survivors include her childhood sweetheart and husband of 68 years, Clifford A. Michaels;  a daughter,  Joyce K. Gustavson and husband Dr. Roger Gustavson of Harrisburg, PA; two sons, James A. Michaels and wife Andrea of Shrewsbury, MA and Thomas E. Michaels and wife Karen of Stillwater, MN; a sister, Verlaine Reik of Skokie, IL; a sister-in-law, Betty Edquist of Edina, MN; five grandchildren, Samuel, Kathleen and Nora Michaels, all of Stillwater, MN, and Lindsay Peters and husband Chris and Lauren Michaels, all of Boston, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by two brothers, Evar Edquist and Reynold Edquist; and five sisters, Irene Holm, Ruth Nicholson, Aileen Smedman, Dorothy Anderson and Lorraine White. 
          A Reception of Friends will be held in the Narthex (W. 10th St. entrance) of Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St., Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the Nave at 1 p.m.  The Rev. William Coleman will officiate.  Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.  Memorials may be made to Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16501; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
